More Than Just Cooking

A NYC food lover's view on the gastronomic world and beyond!

Randy’s Gourmet Ice Cream – Thai Ice Cream in Elmhurst, NY

(Howdy!  I’ve been a busy bee wishing there were more than 24 hours in a day!  Thank you for being patient with me.)

Summer.  It’s a hot, sticky and humid summer this year and I don’t like it!  My hair frizzes like a Brillo pad and I melt into a puddle of sweat.  There’s an attractive picture for ya!

The good thing about summer is the weather gives you a good reason to indulge in ice cream.  I usually watch what I eat but sometimes, a girl’s gotta have her ice cream.  Hey, I’m no health food snob saint but you gotta take care of your body ’cause it’s the only one you have and I want mine to last me a long, long, long time!

After lunch at Lin’s Taiwanese in Elmhurst, NY one weekend with the +1 (and the +1 shall henceforth be known as the Other.  His idea, not mine.), we walked towards the local Chinese grocery stores for some post-lunch shopping and stumbled upon this bright gem of a delicious treat in front of Boon Chu, one of my favorite Thai restaurants:

$2 for handmade Thai ice cream sold at a cheerful stand with a kid making a cute sign. Awww!

Gravatar Credit To Lena Y. Zeng

Howdy!  Yes, I’ve been bad with updating.  Yes, I deserve day old wheatgrass juice with lima beans in it.  My bad, y’all.  Been busy trying to get More Than Just Cooking all cleaned up.  Even at two months old, the site needs some house cleaning!  Be patient, pretty please as it’s only me alone who is doing all the blogging, editing, coding, taking photos and etc, etc, etc.  If only there were more hours in the day!

So I learned how to get a Gravatar for myself! Woo hoo!  I know, it’s a minor accomplishment but gotta relish the little victories, no?   Do you like the photo?  It was taken last fall at Penning’s Orchard in upstate NY.  The photog behind the camera is Lena Y. Zeng.  Thanks for the photo, Lena!  (By the way, not only does she take nice photos, she does great floral arrangements, too!)

Thanks for taking the photo, Lena!

This was at Penning's Orchard last year. You feel miles away from NYC in this beautiful place!

More yummy posts to come!  Thanks for your understanding!

UPDATE: Added photo.  Thanks, Tina.

Chinese Master Sauce (“Lo Sui”) Chicken now with Kosher Coke, Part 2

(Hi y’all!  Apologies for being MIA.  I was working on an exciting project this past week and got swamped!  I’ll be giving you details later.)

Made you wait long enough, huh?  Ok, I hate cliffhangers as much as you so I should have posted part 2 sooner.  Since part 1 was all text I’m going to make it up to you by making part 2 photo centric.  Fair enough?  Let’s get to it!

Lotte Plaza Food Court: Hwe Dup Bop

During one visit to see the parents back home in the ‘burbs of DC, I had dinner at the food court inside Lotte Plaza in Aspen Hill, MD.  (Technically Silver Spring but this area is more commonly known as Aspen Hill.)  Lotte Plaza is part of a chain of Korean grocery stores in the US.  The great thing about Lotte is that they have food courts inside the store.  (Hello, genius!  I love how you can eat and shop in one location.)  These food courts are a great place to go if you want something tasty, filling, quite casual and reasonably priced.

Tulcingo Mexican Deli in Corona, NY

People ask me, “Why would you live in Queens and not the city (Manhattan)?”  I always say, “Culture, culture, culture!”  Okay, it’s more like, “Food, food, food!”  I enjoy having easy access to a wide variety of international cuisines and flavors.  You can have whatever your stomach heart desires in Queens!  Tuclingo Deli is a great example of why I love Queens so much.
